London based duo Tough Love aka Alex and Stef have rapidly risen through the ranks of the house scene over the last six years and become one of our faves here at DT. Their distinct production, together with energetic and bass-heavy DJ sets, have created a cult following of hard-core fans across the UK and beyond. Their sound is instantly recognisable in their production and can be described as bass-infused house with plenty of ‘90s R&B and garage references and hard-hitting groove.
Already notching up two UK Top 40 singles in So Freakin’ Tight & Pony (Jump On It), Tough Love have continued to demonstrate their production and songwriting prowess with a string of big dance records in ‘Touch’, ‘What You Need Is Me’ & ‘Like I Can’. The boys have always maintained their appetite for the underground and club scene as shown in recent releases ‘DLNW’, ‘Friday Night’, ‘Dopamine’, and the massive ‘Hold On’ – a collaboration with two of dance music’s greats in Roger Sanchez and Boy George.
They also the head honchos of Get Twisted Records, which has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 2012, with hit after hit making waves on both the underground and radio. Get Twisted Records now has a core set of artists establishing themselves on the UK market and beyond.
Their current Single ‘Like A Drug’ is out right now, check it out here in our Fresh section and today they deliver us a special mix as we welcome Tough Love to the Data Transmission Podcast.
Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
Signature Tough Love, big and bumping feel good house music.
What’s your personal favourite track on it?
It’s a tough call. We’ve been playing so many of these records out, but ‘Like A Drug’ is a special track for us as it’s our latest single and kicks off the build up to our album ‘Past Present & Future’.
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
We don’t pigeonhole our sound. Whether you call it tech, bass, tribal, it’s a nice blend of all things house. A mix of music that we love, to get you in the mood for summer! There’s a decent amount of exclusives, some familiar club bangers and we have the opportunity to showcase some of the amazing talent releasing on our label, Get Twisted Records this year.
What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
La Solar Festival in Medellin Colombia. Going into unknown territories is always nerving, but exciting. You never know what to expect and to receive such a great response from so many people is overwhelming. We’re looking forward to a few international shows this year that are a first for us.
What have you got coming up?
Our next single ‘Animal’ is out at the end of the month. That will be followed by two more singles, ‘Closer To Love’ featuring A*M*E and ‘Echoes’ featuring Alex Mills. We’ve got Get Twisted Records’ 5th Birthday this summer, so to celebrate we’ll be taking control of Egg London and Eden Ibiza with some very special guests. On top of that, we’ve got another busy touring schedule with dates confirmed across Europe, America and Australia. On that note, we have to big up our agents Myles & Obi for their hard work.
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
The main thing is to say thank you for all the support you’ve given us over the past 6 years. We’ve had an amazing ride and there are no plans to slow down just yet. We’re really looking forward to sharing all our new music with you.
