475 – Danny Howard

Now, our mother always told us never to trust a man with two first names, but in Danny Howard’s case we’re willing to make an exception. Living his life by the mantra that ‘Nothing Else Matters’ (but the music of course), the radio don believes so strongly in the power of those words that he named both his record label and successful run of events just that as a reminder of his commitment to showcasing the sound he’s so passionate about to the masses.

Currently enjoying a hot streak as both a DJ and producer, the coming month sees Danny boy touch down in Liverpool for UK institution Cream Saturday February 20th before he releases his club ready remix of Riton’s ‘Rinse & Repeat’ for Ministry of Sound on the 26th. Thus, bright sparks that we are, we thought we’d get in on the action and welcome the Blackpool native in to the hallowed group of DJs selected to record a Data Transmission mix. Giving us an insight in as to what we can expect from in throughout the rest of 2016 with this off the cuff mix, we won’t spoil the surprise as to what made the cut when Danny was selecting just what to include although we will tell you that it kept us locked in from start to finish, causing one dancing related injury in the office along the way. Check it out for yourself below.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
It’s my ‘I wish it was Ibiza time now’ podcast

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
The opening track by Serge Devant! It’s such a beaut and sets the tone of the mix perfectly.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
It’s a mix I wanted to do without a plan… The only track I planned was the first one and from there, I just played what I thought would sound good. I wanted it to sound like it would if I were DJ’ing live in a club… no limits, no script… just vibes and great music!

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
The Albert Hall in Manchester was pretty special. The room is stunning and set up perfectly to create a festival style experience in an intimate environment. The place was packed and it was one of those gigs that I keep thinking back to. Great night!

What have you got coming up?
Aside from Miami in March, I’m really excited for festival season… I’m returning to the brilliant We Are FSTVL in May and also playing some festivals I haven’t played before such as Hideout and Parklife. It’s going to be a great summer.

More imminently, I’m back in Liverpool this weekend for the first Cream of 2016 and keep an eye out for the announcement of a London show soon 😉

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
For many, it will be a different sound represented in this mix from what people are used to hearing me play either on the radio or at gigs but this one hour journey is just me, doing something fresh, underground and quite self indulgent. It was a lot of fun to do, especially because it was mostly on the fly… if I could recommend one thing to do whilst listening, it would be to have the volume bloody loud! Enjoy…
