Sara Simms captivates the world as an innovative DJ, turntablist and electronic music producer. Best known for her techno sets and productions, Sara is a multi-instrumentalist with a love for music technology. As a DJ, she’s played sets for Allen and Heath’s live broadcast at ADE and Miami Music Week, at Charivari Detroit, and at Techno Taco Tuesday for MNTRA in Las Vegas. In 2020, she created projects together with the LA-based 6AM Group and collaborated with vocalist JEI on ‘Finally’. She’s founded her own label, Simmetry Sounds to release productions and collaborations.
Sara has an intriguing background as a jazz guitarist turned turntablist. She’s competed in DJ battles in both Canada and the US, and was a runner in up the ‘Scratch’ – The Ultimate DJ Contest. Sara’s career highlights include: playing at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, appearing on DJ QBert’s ‘Skratch University’, and playing at AIR (Tokyo). Sara’s ability to push musical boundaries by infusing new sounds into electronic music makes her an artist to watch this year.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Filterheadz – Kompass.

TRAKTOR’s Delay T3 and a custom FX rack by Nice Rack Canada.
Tell us about your next single?
My new single is ‘Bronx’, it’s the eight release on my label Simmetry Sounds. The track was inspired by the subways in New York and was co-written by my friend John La Magna. It features live instrumentation; John recorded the guitar, and my Dad, Mike Onyschuk, played the trumpet lines. The track has a deep bass line that’s balanced by melodies played on the TB-303. The vocal on the track is ‘I’m out of control’, which is open to interpretation but perhaps expresses how people feel at the current time.
What have you got coming up?
‘Bronx’ will be released on all digital platforms on October 23rd and there will be a video for ‘Bronx’ that’s out on YouTube. I’ll be working on new tracks all fall and winter. I’m looking forward to developing my sound and creating more recordings in the next few months.
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Yes! These are challenging times for all but I encourage you to stay positive. Know that our present circumstances will pass in time. Think about good things and stay in touch with your friends and family. Eat well, and stay in shape by exercising. Use the additional time to your benefit, and pick up a new skill that you can learn at home.
