Yahoo Cancel Simon Cowell’s ‘Ultimate DJ’
A short while back fans may remember that soul destroying pop dictator Simon Cowell was planning an assault on electronic music with a new ‘talent’ show aimed at uncovering new DJing talent in the spirit of his other popular lowest common denominator reality TV shows.
Having set his sights on the world of electronic music back in 2013 Cowell planned to team up with Yahoo and Sony for the new show, which was hilariously titled ‘The Ultimate DJ’ and widely expected to hit the web at the start of the new year.
Having been roundly rejected by a large cross section of the dance music community Cowell took to Twitter to defend the project, saying: “The show is intended to showcase the incredible talent that electronic music has shown the world. It will be made with respect.”
Well it appears that Yahoo have now decided to spare dance music the ignominy of the ‘contest’, with Variety reporting that the show has been officially canned before it’s even aired, as the troubled internet giant continues to move away from TV-style programming.
Thus far Simon Cowell’s production company, Syco Entertainment, has declined to comment on the cancellation.
