2013 has certainly been the year of the collaboration with more successful joint ventures and electronic duos raiding the airwaves than we’ve seen since Inner City were originally reinventing what it meant to be in a group. The latest artist to reveal a big new collaborative project is DT’s good friend and top house turntablist Doorly who alongside another one of our favorites in Shadow Child make up new house duo Avec. The first single ‘Disappeared’ is trademark Doorly and Shadow Child, with uplifting Disco infused House wrought with piano keys and featuring vocals from none other than the Scissor Sisters Jake Shears. Out now on Southern Fried Records we nabbed a bit of insider info on the new project from Doorly himself to see how it all came about with him telling us “I’ve been friends with Jake for a few years and we recorded the vocal at my place in London after a night out for a laugh about a year ago, I got the track like 70 % there but just couldn’t make work the way I wanted and gave up on it, then me and Shadow Child were working on a couple of collabs and I pulled it out and he was like yesss!  So it went from there!”

We actually know Doorly and co. have plans for a potential expansion of the outfit and have plenty of big collaborations scheduled in for the future but are currently unable to reveal more. Watch this space…

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
