Sasha: “Most EDM is made by douchebags for douchebags.”

The last few years have undoubtedly been huge for the development of commercial dance music with EDM conquering the U.S market and seeing substantial investment from nigh on all of the music industry’s key players. For many though the indomitable rise of lowest common denominator big room sounds into the charts and beyond is more than they can bear with a host of some of electronic music’s most respected names lining up to poor scorn on EDM.

The latest iconic figure to lash out against the commercial success is none other than heavyweight DJ and producer Sasha who waded into Mixmag’s Great EDM Debate and left fans in no doubt whatsoever in reagrds to what his feelings are on the genre tweeting “Most EDM is made by douchebags for douchebags. Do i care if lots of douchebags buy it? Not really, But it pollutes.”

The Welshman’s comments follow on from The Chemical BrothersEd Simmons making similarly disparaging remarks about the current electronic music landscape and the influence of EDM on it branding the Swedish House Mafia’s work as “drivel.”

It’s not all bad news for Avicii and co. though as one look at the financial figures for the scene in 2013 suggests to us that its biggest stars sleep very well at night, probably on a bed stuffed with money…

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
