Monki debuts on DFTD with ‘Electricity EP’

Monki makes her debut on Defected’s DFTD label with the highly-charged ‘Electricity EP’.

With a BBC Radio 1 show, her own party brand and a record label, Monki preside over a mini-empire. In the seven years since she first got involved in the electronic music business, she has risen to every challenge with aplomb, working her way up from an intern at Rinse FM to become an influential international selector, with gigs across Britain and beyond.

She throws down her signature bass-heavy and soul-infused sound with ‘Electricity’, pairing prominent hi-hats with high impact build-ups. ‘ENG98’ echoes a classic house sound with uplifting piano moments and vocals loops, completing a seriously stomping release with a sound that translates from festival arenas to euphoric club moments.

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
