Californian sonic pioneer Flying Lotus has revealed details of his forthcoming album ‘You’re Dead!’, set for release October 6th via Warp Records.

Tackling the tricky subject of death (incase you hadn’t guessed), the album is promises a “shamanic pilgrimage into the psychedelic unknown of the infinite afterlife.” Harnessing a host of both jubilant and melancholy influences, from jazz through funk, psychedelia and hip hop, FlyLo hopes to see the bright side of loss. “My perspective comes from having lost a lot of people,” he explains. “A lot of my family members passed, but a lot of my colleagues passed away too soon. I felt like in my own experiences, I wanted them to have this same sense of self.” “The album isn’t about the end. It’s really the beginning. It’s the beginning of a new experience. It’s not ‘hey you’re dead.’ It’s ‘hey you’re dead!’ To me it’s a celebration of the next experience. Also, it’s the transition and the confusion,” he adds.Featuring the additional talents of Herbie Hancock, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Angel Deradoorian, Thundercat, Niki Randa, plus FlyLo’s Captain Murphy alias, ‘You’re Dead!’ is already looking to be one of the must-have albums of 2014. The album, which features the above artwork from Japanese comic book artist Shintaro Kago, will be available across all formats including CD, Double Gatefold Vinyl, Digital and a Special Edition 4 x 180g Vinyl box set, which includes ‘You’re Dead! Instrumentals’ on an initial pressing of 2,000 copies worldwide.Watch the ‘You’re Dead!’ trailer below for a sneak peak of what’s in store, and check out the full tracklist below.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
