The curiously named Wankelmut is something of a phenomenon. The Berlin based DJ who doesn’t curate that classic Berlin techno sound and comes from a folk background took the entire world by surprise when his unofficial version of Asaf Avidans ‘One Day’ became one of the most played tracks on youtube garnering over 75 million views and 8 national number ones along the way. Since then he’s been constantly on tour or in the studio churning out new material for his legion of fans such as his hotly anticipated ‘Wasted So Much Time’ EP on Get Physical sub-label Poesie Musik complete with remixes.
Remixing him for today’s premiere is DT favourite Kiwi. A DJ and producer with a deep-rooted passion for the dancefloor, tried-and-tested record selections and a remix request list as long as his arm, Kiwi is a names set to be in many critics mouths this 2014.
Having released on a number of hot labels, making a well-received noise throughout last year, the young London based Shropshire born producer delivers a sound that sits at a point where funk, house and techno meet. His wide-ranging repertoire includes ‘The Guanako Haka’ EP on Days of Being Wild, the ‘Dawn’ EP with Ashworth on Sneaky, and ‘Llama’ on Jack Savidge and Edwin Congreave’s much-acclaimed Deep Shit label. Plus output on Needwant, a track on the next Clouded Vision compilation.
Remixes for Horixon on Kitsuné, Is Tropical, Yumi and the Weather, Lolo and When Saints Go Machine have further extended Kiwi’s appeal, and have paved the way for even more exciting projects soon to be announced.
We’re not alone in lending him our support Kiwi similarly counting the likes of Andrew Weatherall, DJ Harvey, Daniel Avery and Erol Alkan as fans and can be found playing every month at London nightspots XOYO and The Nest, before he heads to Croatia this summer for Stop Making Sense Festival. So with a busy year ahead with a series of as yet unannounced big releases planned we’re pleased to welcome him to DT to share his rework of Wankelmut’s Wasted So Much Time feat. John La Monica exclusively for your listening delight this Wednesday. Enjoy!
