Next month sees the release of Finding Oriya, the full-length collaborative project of Philadelphia-born Jay Haze and Canadian ESB. In preparation, we’ve secured the exclusive premiere of album track ‘Darkness Inside’. Oh, you lucky things!

The promo describes Finding Oriya as “the musical culmination of the journey towards fatherhood” for Haze, who has seen great success in the past with his labels Tuning Spork and Contexterrior, along with releases for Get Physical and Cocoon under his Fuckpony alias. After discovering he had a child on the way during a trip through the mountains of Peru, Haze travelled to Vancouver where he met ESB. The pair spent “30 straight days in the lab, jamming with outboard equipment, experimenting with live instrumentation and recording audio,” resulting in an understated, thought-provoking LP.

As the name suggests, ‘Darkness Inside’ goes deep with grumbly bass and jittering percussion. However, shimmering atmospherics contrast these elements, providing relief.

Finding Oriya is set for release November 11th via Matt Tolfrey’s seminal Leftroom imprint. Stream ‘Darkness Inside’ below and check out the full LP tracklist at the bottom of the page.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
