Regardless of your opinion of the new Daft Punk album and everybody seems to have a strong one, one way or another, an undoubted silver lining for even the harshest of critics is that his work on Random Access Memories got DJ Falcon back in the studio and has seemingly rekindled the artists love of making music with plans to complete at least an EP before 2013 is out.
Of all the collaborators on the new Daft Punk LP it can be argued that Falcons relationship runs the deepest and that is for many why his collaborative effort is the standout effort of the release. Falcon met the French duo many years ago when working in A+R for Virgin before working with Thomas Bangalter on two joint singles and an EP on Bangalters Roule imprint. Thus his return to the studio for RAM was a hotly anticipated one as his work on that track aside it’s been over a decade since we last heard any fresh content from the producer despite releasing promising remixes for fellow Frenchmen Justice and his cousin Alan Braxe.
With further remixes planned for Phoenix and his new EP threatening to become an album depending on success, being billed as an exploration of the analogue sounds he so admires we’re just pleased to have him back in a productive mood and look forward to hearing his new content later in the year.
