Is there a day that passes by wherein seminal French robotic duo Daft Punk don’t announce some sort of news these days? From remixes to action figures it appears that the pairing aren’t wasting a second of their comeback as they enjoy a spotlight brighter than ever before. The latest addition to their bulging news folder for 2013 is reports that that Daft Punk will be playing live at this years Grammy Awards on January 26.
If true it will be the first time the pairing have played live on TV for 5 years, when they appeared at the Grammys with hip hop loudmouth Kanye West. Sources have now claimed that the last performance at the awards with the self-proclaimed genius as was such a positive experience that it was what convinced the punks to return for this years ceremony.
Predictably details are scarce but a date has been set and the event seems a natural one for them to play with them up for four awards (Album Of The Year and Best Dance/Electronica Album for ‘Random Access Memories’, Record Of The Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for ‘Get Lucky’).
With Grammy bosses promising “a collaborative and celebratory stage performance that honors [Daft Punk’s] multi-nominated music” will hold fire before we get too excited as we remember similar rumors swirling around the MTV Music Awards and they proved to be a false dawn…
