Well that’s something you don’t get every day even if you are one of the world’s most recognizable DJ and producers. Sure, first class flights around the world, free drinks and exclusive parties are all par for the course for the modern ‘superstar DJ’ but being honored by a head of state? That’s quite the achievement and exactly what has been bestowed upon Dirty Dutch Records boss Chuckie in his native country of Surinam.

The South American state has long had ties with the Netherlands as a former colony which helps explains Chuckie’s affiliation with the European state but it is Surinam who have decided to ‘knight’ their most famous electronic export. In a ceremony conducted by President Desire D. Bouterse, Chuckie under his real name of Clyde Sergio Narain was decorated as Commander of the Order of the Yellow Star by for his musical accomplishments and for serving as an inspiration to the youth of his country before giving the President a quick mixing lesson.

Speaking of the news on his instagram page Chuckie revealed his pride in receiving the award stating “So amazing to see that my motherland shows so much love for me!!! I also got “knighted” by the president of Suriname!!! From now on call me Sir Clyde Narain!”

Congratulations Sir Chuckie!

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
