Butch Mixes Watergate 18



In this age of carefully scripted press releases, cultivated images and online scrutiny Bülent Gürler is a bit of an oddity. For whenever we’ve speak to the producer we’ve truly got the feeling that we could ask him any question no matter how personal or revealing and get a genuine response. This is a man as candid as he is talented.

Better known by his stage name of Butch the a man with a brutish moniker attempting to conceal a deep yearning to explore new artistic soundscapes has long been able to consider Data Transmission fans of his eclectic output. Constantly evolving, you can imagine our excitement at news that the ever so slightly maverick German would be compile the 18th edition of the Watergate mix series.

Set up in 2008 by the world-famous Watergate club in Berlin, the label has previously collected mixes from the likes of Ellen AllienKerri Chandler and Solomun.

Stepping up to mix Watergate 18 Butch has delivered a 22 track mix that showcases a range of hard edged techno with the release traversing the full spectrum of the genre. Offering tracks from from Marcel Dettmann, Ricardo Villalobos, Abdulla Rashim, Jonas Kopp, Shifted and Redshape along with an exclusive cut from Butch himself and a collaboration with frequent production partner Hohberg Watergate 18 looks set to kick of 2015 with a bang.

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
