Brighton Music Conference Final Speakers and DJs Unveiled

With just under a month to go until the first annual Brighton Music Conference, more artists and speakers have been added to the two day electronic music business and education conference. The exhibition part of BMC, which is aimed at industry, music students and fans of dance music, now features more live artist interviews, more divisive panel discussions, and more exciting technology showcases.

Chicago acid house pioneer DJ Pierre, Mobilee’s AND.ID and Audiofly’s Antony Middleton will now all be interviewed live at the exhibition. Top DJ agents from Paramount, Elite Music Management, and Two Point Zero will also discuss the role of DJ agents with writer Ben Osbourne. Piracy will be debated by Axtone and Hyperdub’s label managers, whilst The Journey To The Top For A Female DJ will be addressed by Lisa Lashes and Anne Savage.

Jimmy Day from Booka Shade support act Let The Machines Do The Work will share tips and insight on how the band produces its music. A new BMC fringe event called Close Up will see the Human League and Heaven 17’s Martyn Ware interviewed by The Haçienda’s Dave Haslam. Speakers from Mixcloud, Digitally Imported, Ofcom, and BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix will also discuss The Role of Radio For Digital Music.

A new DJ coffee table book called ANIMA will also preview exclusively at BMC. The hardcover photographic book features 30 DJs such as Loco Dice, Chris Liebing, Art Department, Cassy, DJ Sneak and Solomun share intimate photos from their private life. ANIMA will be available only for BMC attendees to check out over a drink at Brighton Dome’s café.

Renowned UK soundsystem designers Funktion-One will unveil exclusively at BMC a cutting edge new DJ monitor, the PSM318. The special DJ booth speakers were developed over the last few years in conjunction with Carl Cox, who loved them so much that he installed a pair in Space Ibiza for his weekly club night, and Richie Hawtin, who took a pair on the road for his recent three-week college tour of America.

The business side of BMC also has a number of new additions to its April 11 timetable. Above & Beyond’s Jono Grant will now join BMC’s opening panel titled The Current State of Electronic Music and What’s Coming Next. Plagiarism, passing off, and image rights will also be debated by entertainment lawyers Dean Marsh, Andrew Sharland and Judge Jules, Hydrogen Dukebox’ Doug Hart, and forensic musicologist Peter Oxendale, who often acts as an expert witness in music plagiarism cases.

Is Music Synchronisation More Important Than Ever will be examined by music publisher John Truelove, Believe Digital’s Head of Sync, Dave Philpot, Ben Watkins from Juno Reactor (who composed music for The Matrix films), and music supervisor Mark Lo.

On the BMC party front, Jimpster, Darius Syrossian and Paul Woolford have now all been added to the BMC DJ line-up, and join already released names such as DJ Pierre, Dave Clarke, DJ Spen, Wiggle, John 00 Fleming, Steve Mac, and Sebo K. Altogether 21 club and evening events are happening around BMC across the two nights.
