Billboard Music Awards Adds 3 EDM Categories for 2013

EDM will get its first formal recognition from a major awards ceremony after the Billboard Music Awards today announced 3 new EDM categories were to be added to the event for ‘Top EDM Artist’, ‘Top EDM Song’ and ‘Top EDM Album’.

This years nominees have already been announced as chart topping DJ’s and producers David Guetta, Deadmau5, Calvin Harris, Skrillex and Swedish House Mafia  make the shortlist for ‘Top EDM Artist’, with the same list minus Calvin Harris and Skrillex taking two nominations. The ‘Top EDM Song’ award will be then contested by two efforts from Harris ‘Feel So Close’ and ‘Sweet Nothing‘, with David Guetta’sTitanium’ , Swedish House Mafia’s final release ‘Don’t You Worry Child’ and cult online sensation the ‘Harlem Shake’ by Baauer.

With Vegas investing heavily and the genre gaining ever larger amounts of media attention and recognition it appears love it or loathe it EDM is here for the foreseeable future.
