Putting Will.i.am-gate behind them it appears Above & Beyond’s label Anjunabeats is set to take the American market by storm with a seriously impressive opening showing on it’s digital debut as ‘Anjunadeep 5’, the imprints most recent compilation beat off stiff competition from some of dance music’s biggest names such as Tiësto and Hardwell to take the number one slot on the US iTunes dance chart.

Mixed by label boss James Grant alongside producer Jody Wisternoff the new compilation features tracks by Dusky, Andrew Bayer and Tom Middleton amongst others and its success will come as a surprise to many given the more commercially driven EDM nature typically favored by the American chart.

Sitting behind Anjunadeep 5 are efforts from Zedd at number two, Tiësto at number 3 and Hardwell at number four whilst perversely Anjunadeep 5 only debuted at number 5 here in the UK.  Is this a sign that the mass consumer market Stateside are moving to different deeper tastes and away from the big room sounds and lasers of EDM?

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
