Melt Festival returns for its 21st year

Share

Melt Festival returns for its 21st year to the East German ‘city of iron’ between 18th and 22nd July 2019. It’s situated in the German province of Saxony-Anhalt about an hour’s drive south-west of Berlin. The festival takes place on the peninsula of Ferropolis, which stretches out into Lake Grimmener.

It’s idyllic, scenic forest background, contrasts with the industrial equipment of a former coal mine. This provides a perfect backdrop for a grungy, yet picturesque festival. After the coal mine closed in 1991, the surroundings of the peninsula were flooded. This created what is now Lake Grimmener. So, best to bring your bikini as the festival’s location is surrounded by this beautiful lake. It’s the perfect opportunity for a swim, especially as July in Germany can reach almost 40 degrees Celsius.

This year’s festival line up includes the biggest world-renowned names in pop, indie, hip hop, house and techno. A$AP Rocky, Four Tet, Solomun, Skepta, Modeseletkor, Bonobo (DJ), Kink (Live), Mall Grab, Helena Hauff, Honey Dijon and many, many more are set to take the stages of Melt.

Melt Stage, Gremmin Beach, Highsnobiety Sound System, Big Wheel and the Forest Stag are The four stages that make up Melt Festival. When these stages finish at 5am there’s no need to panic! The Sleepless stage runs constantly throughout the whole weekend. Commencing on Thursday evening at 8pm with Sally C and closing with Curious Naturale on Monday morning at 11.30am.

Getting to the festival is cheap and easy. With bus and rail connections directly from Berlin centre and Berlin airport. There’s also connections from all over Europe, and car parking facilities. You’ll find onsite camping and the opportunity to purchase VIP at the festival.
