Hernan Cattaneo’s Top 5 favourite places to DJ

If ever there was an artist who doesn’t need an introduction, it has to be the man known to music lovers the world over simply as El Maestro. Throughout his rise to become both a foundation and a founding father of the underground house scene, the name Hernán Cattáneo has become synonymous with dedication, passion and an unwavering commitment to championing a unique quality of music that is hard to define, but instantly recognisable as his signature sound.

His effortless ability to clock up more than 30 years of DJing, 11 albums, 30 singles and 50 remixes is the legacy of a uniquely powerful personal touch, which ensured that Hernán stood out from the start. During his first DJ residency at Buenos Aires’ legendary Clubland, it was Hernán’s winning combination of humble professionalism, primal passion for the music and deeprooted dedication to the dancefloorlovers which enabled him to make his mark as a warmup DJ for some of the biggest names in dance music.

He’s mixed ‘Balance presents Sunsetstrip’. This is the next plateau of concept mixes. Featuring 33 tracks by established, and new producers, such as DAVI, Khen, Brian Cid, Navar, CID Inc., and today’s premiere from Nick Varon. To celebrate the release, we’ve asked him his Top 5 favourite places to DJ around the world.

Not only because it’s my own country but Argentina is well known globally for the amazing atmosphere at any music show from a Rolling Stones concert to a club show with Danny Howells. Truly unparalleled spirit and many cities to play like Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Mendoza, Rosario, Tucuman and more.

Especially in the south, along with Argentina, another amazing country to play and you can feel the love for the music from their beautiful crowds – Clubs like Warung are leading the way and are definitely a must for every DJ and never ever fails to impress me.

Montreal and Toronto have some of the best clubs in America, including my favourite nightclub: Stereo – where we only do marathon sets every December, when Guy J came along we go back to back for 20+ hrs

Best country in Eastern Europe for the music I like to play – Home of huge festivals like Balaton and Sziget + the incredible Akvarium Klub where I go twice a year for some great nights.

We all know the Dutch are like ¨professional clubbers“ and they have the best clubbing destination where clubs, events and festivals are super well produced and the crowds are the most fun and diverse to play. They really know how to party and I’ve got so many favourite events like Woodstock 69, Loveland, ADE shows, boat parties and our own Sudbeat Showcase.

Also to mention – Australia, Japan and Mexico.

Hernan Cattaneo mixes ‘Balance presents Sunsetstrip’, which is OUT NOW. You can grab the whole compilation here.
