Mos Def Plays J Dilla at One Off London Show

What do you get if you cross internationally renowned rapper and political activist Mos Def with legendary US beatsmith J Dilla? Well apart from a very excited DT office, (we’re an excitable bunch, we know…) the answer would be a special once in a lifetime show where Def pays tribute to the late Jay Dee and his revered legacy by dropping lyrics over his iconic beats.

Tragically Dilla passed away in 2006 but his influence on the hip-hop world lives on, with the impact of his unique beats and a host of posthumous releases firmly establishing him as one of hip-hop’s most influential, admired and respected figures.

Mos Def needs no introduction. No matter what your musical preference, the Brooklynite is universally admired for his contribution to the development of hip hop. Having been responsible for bringing some of Dilla’s work to light after the producer’s death, notably using his beats on tracks Def tracks ‘History’ and ‘Sunshine Screwface’ his understanding of the life and work of Dilla leave Def uniquely positioned to lead a celebration of an extraordinary musician’s life at The O2’s Indigo June 11th.

With London’s summer date the only chance to see this remarkable show live demand for tickets to attend this rare night completely dedicated to the music of JDilla that is performed by one of his collaborators is sure to be fierce. A must see event for the capital’s hip-hop heads, tickets go on sale Friday May 1st at 10am. See you there.
