Tottenham bred, rule-breaking by nature. Social Security has been doing things his way since the pirate radio days, and he’s not about to stop now.

Coming from a South Asian background and growing up in North London’s grimier corners, Social cut his teeth in the 90s as Zoobee MC alongside Evil B (B Live 247) and DJ Lix, tearing up the airwaves before most people knew what Jungle even was. One of the first ethnic minority artists to land a deal with Hospital Records in the early 2000s, he wasn’t following trends. He was setting them.

His early releases said it all. A remix of Lenny Fontana‘s ‘Spread Love’ on Hospital, the iconic ‘Junglist’ feat. Peter Bouncer on Congo Natty, and the production of Stevie Hyper D‘s legendary vocal ‘Move Your Body’, which became ‘Buffalo Soldier’, a Jungle Drum & Bass anthem that still rattles rigs to this day. BBC Radio 1 spins, runs on Fabio’s Creative Source, V2, Jungle Cakes, and S12 Records. The CV speaks for itself.

In 2005, he launched Benefit Beats, a label built on soul, energy, and zero compromise. Tracks like ‘Green Cross Code’, ‘Tiger Klaw’, ‘Lions & Tigers & Bears OH MY!’ and ‘The Flux Capacitor’ have been doing damage on dancefloors ever since. Twenty years on, the label is back with a relaunch that pulls Jungle and Drum & Bass back to its roots: Reggae, Funk, Soul, Jazz, Hip-Hop. Real music for real heads.

The touring history is no joke either. fabric London to Respect LA, sharing stages with Roni Size, Skepta, Andy C, Wiley, Talvin Singh, and Goldie. Under his Fibre Optik alias, his Jungle Drum & Bass flip of ‘Show Me Love’ picked up serious love from BBC Radio 1‘s DJ Target, proving he can move between worlds without losing the plot.

With a packed release schedule across 2026 and 2027, a debut album in ‘Social Cleanzin’ on the way, and a fresh signing to Bristol’s finest Full Cycle Records with the ‘New Era EP’, Social Security is back where he belongs. Jungle Funk isn’t a genre exercise. It’s a mindset. Vibes, energy, intention, soul. Everything else can wait outside.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?

To be honest I don’t have one. Its like asking me what’s your favourite fruit, I have too too many! Lol

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?

The Knowledge of the Music and the Technique and Skill it takes to actually really mix like this and keep the energy flowing in various directions at all times. As our Music deserves that because of its rich culture and versatility, we need to go back to the Roots. Its like a joyful or painful experience, you need to go back to that joyful or painful experience to acknowledge what happened and heal from it / learn from it, ask yourself why was I so happy etc in order to move forward in the present day. Sometimes you think you are evolving the sound but your only making it worse and taking out the soul of it so you need to go backwards to move forwards – its a Cycle.

Tell us about your next release… What have you got coming up?

Absolutely gassed to share my debut EP on the Legendary Iconic Pillar of a Label – Full Cycle Records. My EP is entitled NEW ERA EP. It pays homage in a New Age to the Bristol Full Cycle Sound while maintaining my identity and my sound. I think you have to be careful because Full Cycle has been extremely influential in our scene and the culture since its birth in the early / mid 90’s so you’re tempted just wanna make THAT! But I don’t, I wanna bring my flavaz and my fingerprint to the Label and make my mark just as Roni, Krust & Die did and all the Full Cycle crew that came out on the label while still being inspired by them and what they created.

Its a 4 Track EP, we have Wild Thing, Time Capsule, Thunder Clap & New Era. I could go into the track breakdowns but I won’t lol. When was the last time you actually raved?

Not too long ago actually, it was at our Full Cycle Records residency at The Star & Garter in Bristol May 2026 which is always a ram jam affair and we have one in June 2026 which is gonna be super special not only because my EP drops this month but…haha…keep your eyes on our Socials and you’ll soon know what im talking about.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?

For me Music has ALWAYS been a Spiritual vibration and each track / Music Genre has its own Soul, when you take the Soul out of it how do you think its going to make you feel? So you ALWAYS have to create / perform with purpose, soul, feeling, it truly needs to come from within, an honest truthful place, it has to be a powerful current that carries a message, a powerful current that carries you, you yourself have to be that message to share with the beautiful people you engage with and then you can truly create something very special, thats what all the GREATS did, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, MJ, Prince, Whitney, Donna Summer I could go on and on and on but I’m sure you understand. 

Its like the explosion of Jungle Drum & Bass in the 90’s it was always done with Love, Passion and this Drive to take the Sound to different places of creativity and not worrying about the technicalities, not worrying about followers, likes and views, not worrying about fame because all you wanted to do is play and create music and share it. It was all done on Passion and Love for the Sound. Everything today is so focused on numbers, how many views, likes, followers etc, where’s the Talent gone? Where’s those 20,000 hours gone? Production wise its all very clinical where a lot of the time it all sounds sterile and we’ve lost that ruff round the edges approach and to be honest thats where the magic happens, it happens in the roughest of places wether it be on the streets or in the studio. So I always try to remind myself of this and to come with those vibes and those feelings with my Production and my D.J’ing. Its not about Perfection its about Honesty.
