Renegade Riddims: Bring The Beat Mack

Share

After immersing himself in the world of rave culture for over three decades, it’s hard for Bring The Beat Mack to resist the desire to be a part of the action himself. His recent venture into the realm of drum and bass marks the culmination of a lifelong passion for various forms of dance music.

In the early ’90s, Mack delved into the world of raving through tapes from renowned icons like DJ Rap, Sasha, and Andy Weatherall. These musical influences captivated him instantly, regardless of whether it was house, jungle, or hardcore. The infectious beats of the golden-age rave scene captured his young soul.

Fortunate enough to attend parties hosted by legendary Midlands-based crews like DiY and Smokescreen, as well as Techno-fueled squat raves organized by friends in London, Mack’s interest in the burgeoning Trance scene grew. With a pair of Technics turntables, he honed his mixing style and established himself as a DJ. As the new millennium approached, breaks tracks from artists such as Deekline, Ed Solo, and The Freestylers expanded his musical repertoire.

Fate intervened when Mack had the opportunity to experience a Drum & Bass set by Dubroot, a resident of WheelUp Sound System, at a brewery rave in 2017. This encounter inspired him to delve deeper into the world of Drum & Bass, captivated by its unparalleled intensity. Shortly after, Mack became a resident DJ for WheelUp. A pivotal moment arrived during his multigenre set at the Sounds Good Festival, which he also organized in 2021. He experienced an epiphany that confirmed his path forward lay in Drum & Bass. From that moment on, he dedicated himself to the East London Drum & Bass scene as a DJ for WheelUp, ventured into music production, continued running the Sounds Good Festival, and founded the Upgraded label.

While his diverse musical upbringing continues to shape his sound, Drum & Bass remains at the heart of the Bring The Beat Mack project. His releases on respected labels such as Jungle Cakes, Propa Talent, and Original Key Records have solidified his status as a recognized talent in the scene. When DJ Rap herself hand-picked one of his remixes for release, it was a testament to his skill. Bring The Beat Mack has also gained recognition behind the decks, sharing lineups with legendary figures like Ragga Twins, Fabio, A Guy Called Gerald, The Freestylers, DJ Rap, and Dope Ammo—both as a solo artist and as part of WheelUp.

Now Bring The Beat Mack joins our Renegade Riddims series with an absolutely phenomenal mix with a wicked track selection! The mix features music from the likes of himself, DJ Rap, Fourward, Brockie & Det, Dr Meaker, Break, DJ Hybrid, Harriet Jaxxon & GQ, Grafix and loads more!
