Offline drops ‘Ultra Violet’ EP on Deep Within Recordings
A fresh face on the thriving deep scene, Dorset Drum & Bass specialist Offline makes his Deep Within Recordings debut with his ‘Ultra Violet’ EP. This is a four-track assortment of meticulously produced cuts including a guest appearance from fellow rising star En:vy.
Immersive and cinematic from its opening notes, the project’s first offering, the title track ‘Ultra Violet’, sets the tone for what’s to come. Swelling ambiences, reverberating leads and gentle hi-hats give way to a staggered array of convulsing basslines and slick drum work, resulting in a number in equal parts smooth and hard-hitting.
Keeping up the pace is ‘Can You Say’, the aforementioned collaboration with Vienna-born, Bristol-based student En:vy, whose mastery of the minimal side of the D&B spectrum has earned him previous appearances on coveted labels including Flexout and Trust Audio. True to form, it’s a grippingly surreal slice of blissed-out rollage, with twinkling, delay-soaked arps, burgeoning subs and shimmering synth work making it one of the pair’s most exciting ventures yet.
‘Giving Up’, as its name suggests, is a deep, brooding concoction, centred around resonant basslines and underscored by scratchy melodies and skittering percussion. Demonstrating a more melancholic side to the emergent talent’s musical arsenal, it’s a strong display of his versatility, rivalled by its successor, the pared-back EP closer ‘Me & You’. Bringing together pitched percussion, lurking low-end and frantic, murmuring atmospherics, it’s a worthy conclusion to what will undoubtedly be looked back upon as one of the scene’s most exciting debuts of 2021.
The ‘Ultra Violet’ EP lands on 16th April exclusively via Beatport and Bandcamp, hitting other stores and streaming services on 30th April.
