Facing Jinx prepares to drop his debut album

Share

Facing Jinx‘s new album ‘For The Good Of It All’ feels like an apt title for a record that has been on a real journey before it’s even seen the target light of the turntable. After been signed and then subsequently dropped last minute, by two high flying independent labels, Facing Jinx’s debut LP was destined to be self-released, and his own label Peer Pressure Records which he jointly heads up with Pilth, was the perfect vessel.

This 12 track drum and bass album is truly beautiful. Drawing influence from jungle and liquid as well as low-fi hip hop, with flecks of soul and RnB, all washed over with cool, ethereal touches. On this record, Facing Jinx has worked with his friends and people he has met along the way, resulting in every track featuring a different collaborative vocal.

As the album awakens you’re invited to lose yourself amongst the meditative tones of ‘Dragonfly’, before ‘Black Valentine’ introduces us to soulful, slow-moving hip hop influences, with the help of the lyrically conscious Sense MC. The first single to be lifted from the album is ‘Come Back to Me’ backed with our premiere for today ‘My Soul’, these tracks are the works first glimpse of dark and delicate drum and bass vibes, the first showcasing a glistening shimmer of liquid with soft pianos, tight shuffling drums and a stunning vocal while the latter nests a sultry, smoking vox and weighty sub within its smooth soundscape. The title track ‘For the Good of It All’ is perhaps the album’s most emotive offering, the spoken word piece examines notions of gratitude and learning to except fulfilment from the exceptional, ordinary beauty in our everyday life. Another of the album’s triumphs is ‘Remember To Breath’ with crisp, expertly perfected beats against a soaring backdrop of radiating pads, and an earthy, uplifting vocal.

The track which is also the second EP to be released form the work is backed with ‘Here With You’ which plays out a graceful balance between solid dance floor patterns and a touching subject matter to a stunning effect before the album closes with the gorgeous warmth of ‘Give You The World’.

Facing Jinx’s debut album ‘For the Good of It All’ is set for release on Peer Pressure Records on 31st July with the ‘Come Back to Me/My Soul’ EP dropping this Friday (29th May).
