Easy prepares to drop ‘After Dark’ LP with album sampler
Easy (Marnix Steel) has been playing around with instruments and sound for as long as he can remember. Toy guitars, keyboards and even a tiny drumkit were his favourite toys as a child.
After discovering techno and house music in the mid ’90s at the legendary first editions of the I Love Techno festival in Ghent, the first Drum & Bass tune that really resonated with him was A Guy Called Gerald ‘Silent Cry’ released on a compilation CD by Brussels’ renowned Fuse club in 1996. It was around this time that he bought his first synth and made his first steps in production.
As a DJ, Easy was very active in the Belgian Drum & Bass scene throughout the noughties, co-hosting the Common Senz parties in Leuven, with a deliberate focus on the more musical side of Drum & Bass with artists like Calibre, DJ Flight, Mathematics, Jubei, SP:MC and the sorely missed Marcus Intalex.
It wasn’t until 2017 though, after a ten year hiatus from music, that Easy’s first ever release saw the light on Influence Records. A classically trained guitarist, and self-taught on piano, Easy’s music is a melting pot of influences from many different genres and artists.
The ‘After Dark’ album was created during the first lockdown of 2020 and is meant to be a listening experience, reflecting some of the different musical styles that have influenced Easy over the years.
Today we premiere ‘After Dark’ which you can check out below. The album sampler drops on Friday 6th August, make sure you get your hands on a copy from the purchase button beneath the Soundcloud player!
