Dunk lands on Impact Music with ‘Dirty Handz’ EP

Best known as one half of the Playaz-signed jump up duo Jam Thieves until recently, DJ/producer Dunk has rapidly risen to prominence in his own right. Launching his solo career at the start of the year Dunk has amassed a whopping nine releases.

Dunk‘s ‘Dirty Handz’ EP follows in the same vein, as he makes his debut on Lyon label Impact Music this October.

Enthralling from its first notes, the title track ‘Dirty Handz’ (feat. Black Opps) is a jazzy, rap-infused number. Sampling an iconic slice of 00s hip hop before breaking into pared-back drops marked by ultra-deep sub-bass and snappy snares. ‘High Jump’, meanwhile, opens with atmospheric fuzz and clattering foley sounds. Creeping into a vivacious crescendo pierced by tense bass growls and sprinkled with shimmering hi-hats.

Past the halfway mark, ‘Strategy’ takes the project in a more cinematic direction. With swirling sound effects leading into a juggernaut of a drop, dominated by throaty basslines and relentless drum programming. Seeing out the EP in style is our premiere ‘Shakedown’. Equally as amped-up an affair as ‘Strategy’ it’s centred around careening sub-bass, offset by gritty synth stabs.

This is yet another huge success for the seasoned producer. Proving that with or without his fellow Jam Thief, he’s a more than capable craftsman of a myriad styles of Drum & Bass. He’s also a very welcome addition to the Impact Music roster.

The Brazilian beatmaker has been able to dabble in a wider range of styles of Drum & Bass than we’ve ever heard from him before. In particular, specialising in dingy, minimal cuts. As this new release proves, there is a lot of creativity in Dunk and his output of late has been nothing short of phenomenal. We have premiered a couple of his tracks and cannot quite believe the frequency and quality of his releases. Some say it’s about quality over quantity, but when you get both at the same time it’s outstanding!
