Dunk drops his ‘Play The Game’ EP on SINE Audio

You may not be fully familiar with the name Dunk yet, but, he has been making waves under the alias of Jam Thieves for years. The Brazilian duo have made a name for themselves through their unique blend of minimal and jump-up sounds. They’ve had an unyielding output on labels like Proximity, Serial Killaz and DJ Hype and Pascal’s Playaz Recordings.

Entering 2020 with a new mission, Dunk has gone solo. He has honed in on his subby, stripped-back take on Drum & Bass. He’s seen six massive releases and counting this year alone. Now SINE Audio welcome him into their camp with the fierce ‘Play The Game’ EP.

‘SetBack’ is the perfect introduction to Dunk’s inimitable style. Sitting somewhere between minimal and the more ‘roller’ led corners of Drum & Bass. Crisp drums hark back to his work as one half of Jam Thieves. This is something that is apparent throughout the whole release. The tune is stripped back, with a bare-bones drum beat that leaves room for roaring bass growls and cleverly used snippets of atmosphere.

The title track and our premiere today ‘Play The Game’ opens up with jungle-inspired drums. Then it reaches the drop and releases into unrestrained, tech-step infused energy. Drums punch through the mix to provide that raw, undiluted feel that the genre once centred around.

4am sweaty club basement vibes run all the way through with ‘Sex Beat’. It’s a no messing tribal number that revolves around a repeating vocal chant, subtly pulsating subs and those signature Dunk mid-bass growls.

‘Stigmate’ is a subby roller, which fuses minimal production techniques with subtle splashes of cinematic ambiance and disarming bass hits dotted throughout. Alongside some modulated bass effects, these elements keep you guessing throughout the track, and the track rounds off the release perfectly.

Finally, Enta steps up for remix duties with this tasteful relick of ‘Setback’. Keeping the melody and groove of the original bassline, Enta has built upon the track with his own signature twist, creating a driving, ever-progressing steamroller of a track that is unrelenting throughout its duration.

This EP is pure fire, full of energy and amazing production, don’t let it slip by! Check out our premiere of ‘Play The Game’ below. The EP drops on SINE Audio on 10th September, you can grab it from here
