High 5: A Guy Called Gerald Picks 5 Of His Favourite Cuts

As we previously mentioned legendary promotion Hard Times will take to Ibiza for the season this summer on Saturday nights at Vista Club, which sits next to Privilege’s main room, yet acts as an entirely separate club, with a crystal clear Funktion One Dance Stack Sound System, and awe inspiring views across San Rafael, Ibiza Town and finally the Iberian sea.

For week 2, they welcome A Guy Called Gerald to headline the event.  Where do you start with A Guy Called Gerald? A hidden gem, the gateway between Chicago house / Detroit Techno and the UK dance music explosion in the late 80s. He’s long been one of our favourite artists as one of a few special producers who entered dance music in the jacking zone.

So with his set in Ibiza just around the corner we thought we’d invite A Guy Called Gerald to share 5 tracks with us that he just can’t get enough of at the moment.

Move Your Body – Gene Farris [Relief Records]
It’s one of those tracks that gets people jumping and a bumping. You get me? Know what I mean? Innit?

Photon – Deetron [Character]
This track Photon sounds like something from the 80’s so it gives youngsters that nostalgic vibe. It’s got the lot – 909 snares and a big sampled chord stab.

Shake Me – Dave Pad [Plastic City]
Love the groove on this one. And when he says Let’s Go it’s a trigger and people really do ‘let it go’.

Screaming Hand (Oliver Shories Remix) – Einmusik [EINMUSIKA]
It’s a breather – if you’ve got that ethereal feeling – it will bring your pill up, give you the cake in the face feeling that you can only get from the likes of Steve Cake-e-o-ke.

Tears – HNNY [Local Talk]
I love the feel of this record. So different. It’s especially nice to play this track to break up a really loopy set. Changes the flow.

Nobody Can Be You But You – Steve Arrington [Atlantic Records]
This guy is a total don. This is the kind of track that lets people hear the words of a wise man. Be enlightened!
