The Playground At Proud

The Playground is pleased to announce the launch of its brand new weekly Saturday night event of the year at Proud, 14th September, welcoming Danny Howells as headliner and more supporters including Hot Sugar and Daktyl. Other artists already confirmed include Autokratz (live), Brown & Gammon, Synkro, Mumbai Science, Kraak & Smaak, Slow Magic, Rene Amesz + many more to be announced.

With more than 20 years of activity, Danny Howells is a true house legend: labelled progressive, tribal and tech house DJ/producer, what Danny really does is a unique and eclectic mix of genres which he describes as “deepsexyfuturistictechfunkouse”. Formerly voted as number ten of world’s top DJs by DJ Magazine, he is an authentic artist and brilliant entertainer at the same time. Starting from the very beginning at Bedrock with John Digweed, Danny has been DJing regularly at top clubs including Ministry of Sound, Club Space in Miami and Twilo in NYC, Renaissance, The End as well as at his own ‘Dig Deeper’ nights worldwide. Danny’s broad musical taste ranges from jazz to rock, to pop and anything a bit bizarre. His way of combining cutting edge grooves with crowd pleasing dynamics enables him to connect with his audience, making Danny Howells one of the most loved acts in the world. Hot Sugar name is next on the bill: directly from New York City, Nick Koening aka Hot Sugar is one of the young producers redefining the approach to electronic sounds. Starting making beats when he was 13, he has been evolving his sound also collaborating with the likes of The Roots, Heems and Kool, AD from Das Racist, John Hill, Shady Blaze, 100s, Antwon and Big Baby Gandhi. His latest EP ‘Midi Murder’, out July 2013, is the clear showcase of how Hot Sugar takes the most obscure and hidden sounds turning them into melodious and groovy beats. Daktyl is one of those producers whose name couldn’t be anymore suited in describing his ability behind his productions. With releases on White Colours, he gained massive support throughout 2012 and has also been invited to play at Stealth in Nottingham and all over the UK supporting acts like Artful Dodger, Lunice, Baauer and closing The Bloody Beetroots in the main room at Koko in March. With releases on Birth Records and more shows added to his events listings, he’s definitely one of those prolific British artists not to be missed! Seventeen Evergreen is Caleb Pate and Nephi Evans from San Francisco, California. Starting from a rock sound back in 2007, the band had a complete journey into music throughout the years, now reaching more experimental vibes. Their latest album ‘Steady On, Scientist!’ recalls MGMT, Animal Collective and Yeasayer at the same time: a great piece of art. Gathering his band members from Europe’s biggest cities, London, Paris and Oslo, AOU is a mix of diverse influences and unique musical experiences. In their latest EP out now, they blend alternative rock, dream-pop and electronica with a brilliant result.

The Playground is ready to kick off this winter season with the hottest acts coming from the international electronic music scene, in Proud on Saturday 14th of September. Proud can be found at The Horse Hospital, Staples Market, Chalk Farm Road, Camden Town, NW1 8AH.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
