Evil C & The Hustler – Get Up (Remixes)

Dave The Hustler has relaunched Paparazzi, the Geneva-based label he started with Clive Jenkins (aka Evil C) in 1998 which released a string of floor-shakers until early  in the last decade.

The new label will revisit highlights of the first run, starting with the tech-house classic which started it all. The original version kicks off proceedings, sounding timeless and seminal with its thudding undertow laced with ghostly synths and rude bass. The interplay between the minimal ingredients is spot on and funky.

Remixes come from Frankfurt’s Julien Bracht in weighty beats mode, Dachsund with a No BS Remix harnessing stripped-down house power and Geneva producer and Caduceus label honcho Lad with a squelched up trouser trumpeter.

Best of all is Dave’s new remix (sadly on digital), which grafts on a sepulchral new organ riff, reboots the momentum and takes it into deep early 90s New York turf with extra wallop, masturbation ritual loop and killer piano drop.

Welcome back!

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
