Christian Nielsen – Jungle Love / Throwback
Label: Play It DownRelease: Out Now
Jesse Rose’s Play It Down imprint has become an incredibly reliable source of stone cold, party-starting house music over the years. This latest offering comes from returning Danish producer Christian Nielsen who serves up an unstoppable two tracker courtesy of Jungle Love / Throwback.
A fascinating EP that, while far from subtle, is scrupulously produced and very much made to move the floor – and nothing else. There is, suffice to say, nothing wrong with such methods of working, and Nielsen really does deserve great plaudits for the manner in which he sets his stall out here. Opener ‘Throwback’ comes complete with woodpecker percussion and a mound of clever bongo claps, while the hallowed bass and the Latin-tinge will surely drag this one straight to the Balearics this summer.
Clipped horns abound on the downright barmy ‘Jungle Love’, another drum-laced monster that takes no prisoners. Full of samba-sonic lunacy and ‘What Up Detroit?’ lyrics that are brilliantly not in line with matters elsewhere; it’s a melding of sounds that walks a tightrope but comes out basking at the end of it all. On this evidence, Rose’s A&R skills are just as clued-in as they’ve ever been.
