Akabu & Giom Feat. Kadija Kamara – Again

Label: Z RecordsScore: 8/10

This is already out and unfortunately slipped through the net last month but is well worth checking as the latest instalment in the stellar career of veteran house maverick Joey Negro.

Under his Akabu persona, he teams up with deep house forager Giom and singer Kadija to present three versions, kicking off with the Joey Negro Strip Mix, which beautifully plugs into that deep-fried, Murk-style hypno-house chug, burrowing to mole bedroom action levels of subterranean groove. Kadija effortlessly manages to blend the requisite levels of sass and sultry playfulness over the thong-friendly hump, further highlighted on Giom’s weightier take, driven by prodding organ and focussing on call-and-response chorus.

Finally, the Akabu Hangin’ On Dub starts by riding  the same funky groove train before the breakdown opens the trap-door to even lower sonic vistas, completing yet another quality set from one of our longest-running and most respected house labels and producers.
