Battery & Philth Drop ‘Need You’ Ahead Of The ‘Mesmerize’ EP On Majesty

Some tunes announce themselves quietly. ‘Need You’ isn’t one of them. It’s the first cut off Battery & Philth‘s second EP titled ‘Mesmerize’, for Majesty, and if you’ve been anywhere near a decent Jungle or Drum & Bass set in the last twelve months, chances are you’ve already felt it land.
Battery & Philth aren’t new to this. Between them, they’ve clocked serious time across the scene’s biggest labels, and their Kool FM residency has put them shoulder to shoulder with the sound at every level, from pirate radio to packed-out club floors. That’s the kind of grounding you can’t fake, and it shows in how confidently they move between styles on the new EP.
‘Need You’ is built to work a room. An infectious stab groove and galloping drums set the tension early, then those classic diva vocals do exactly what classic diva vocals are supposed to do: pull you tighter and tighter towards the drop. When it lands, stomping bass, skipping drums and stabs all lock together, there’s no ambiguity about what happens next. Hands up. Faces lit. Every time.
The ‘Mesmerize’ EP itself is the real statement. Four tracks, four moods, one thread running through them all. Sun-kissed liquid funk sits next to brutal breakbeat pressure. Bubbly garage energy gets a disco twist. Detroit-leaning atmospherics meet growling low end. It’s a lot of ground to cover, but nothing here feels forced; each track knows exactly what era it’s nodding to while sounding thoroughly present-day.
That range is the whole Majesty ethos in miniature, a label that’s never been interested in staying in one lane, and Battery & Philth wear it well. Visually, the EP is finished off by artist Sian Pointon, aka re.coll.etc, whose hand-cut collages draw on art deco and pop-art references for artwork as genre-blurring as the music itself.
‘Need You’ drops on 17th July, with the full ‘Mesmerize’ EP following on 14th August. Whether it’s a sweaty basement, a rooftop at golden hour, or a festival main stage, this one’s built for wherever the bass hits hardest.
