Lauren Steel Brings the Underground Grooves to Our Spotlight Mix

Share

London’s Lauren Steel steps into the Data Transmission Spotlight Mix this week, bringing a serious helping of minimal deep tech, rolling basslines and stripped-back house grooves.

Having made her production debut on Moxy Muzik in 2024, Lauren has wasted little time making her mark. Releases on BELIEF (Eastenderz), Tamango Records, Metafloor Records and ABODE have helped establish her name in the underground, while appearances at Studio 338, Ministry of Sound, Joshua Brooks and The Arch Brighton have seen her building a reputation behind the decks.

She’s keeping that momentum moving, too, with a fresh single landing on Dansu Discs this Friday, 16th October.

For her Spotlight Mix, Lauren digs into the sounds that have been shaping her sets. It’s a groove-heavy selection of chunky drums, bouncing basslines, cheeky vocal cuts and plenty of percussion. The kind of records that do their best work in packed basements and sweaty clubs when nobody’s particularly interested in going home.

There’s music from Andre Butano and Chinonegro, Simon Kidzoo and Mellizos, Eric Costa and Piem, plus cuts from Donny Snipes, AMMIL, Dellavega and bullet tooth. Louden’s ‘Freaky Jam’ and Tatan Bilbao’s ‘Wepa’ also make the cut, keeping things firmly focused on the dancefloor.

But there’s more to this mix than a selection of club favourites. Lauren drops two of her own unreleased productions, ‘Get Down’ and ‘Hold Fire’, offering a first taste of what’s coming from her studio. There’s also an unreleased track from Kel Mozy, ‘Take a Trip’, tucked into the closing stretch.

It’s a proper snapshot of where Lauren Steel is right now, an artist finding her feet on some respected labels, building her sound and developing the kind of record collection that makes a DJ worth paying attention to.

Turn it up and get stuck into Lauren Steel’s Spotlight Mix, exclusively on Data Transmission.
