Renegade Riddims: Walk:r
Share
27-year-old Jack Fuller aka Walk:r is a Newcastle-born Drum & Bass DJ and Producer now residing in Bristol. He has had previous releases on labels such as Hospital, Medschool, Guidance and Spearhead. His styles of productions vary from the more soulful end of the spectrum to the deeper and darker contrasting ends. Drawing inspiration from labels such as Metalheadz, Exit, Quarantine, Moving Shadow, The North Quarter, Good Looking Records and many others.
His productions have matured and progressed over time and he aims to write good music to be enjoyed by good people regardless of the setting.
Walk:r draws inspiration for his music from other genres outside of Drum & Bass ranging from Jazz, Funk, Soul, Hip Hop, old school RnB and he is influenced by many artists such as Sade, Tame Impala, Fleetwood Mac, Children of Zeus, Nas… the list is endless.
Artists that inspire him within Drum & Bass range from dBridge, Photek, Jubei, LSB, Lenzman, Redeyes, Mikal, Fanu, and many more.
To celebrate the release of his debut single ‘Mirrors / Inidigo’ on Jubei‘s Carbon Music imprint (grab it here) I’m stoked to bring Walk:r to our Renegade Riddims series! He has curated a wicked mix that is almost 1.5 hours long and features music from himself (including a few dubs!), Jubei, Calibre, Nookie, Workforce, DJ Trace, Quadrant & Iris, SL8R, Mark System and loads more!

Q&A:
Sum up this mix in 10 words…
It’s a nice rollout mix, with some varied flavours throughout!
What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Hmmm that’s a big question and a hard one to answer!
Every track in this mix I love wholeheartedly and for different reasons. But if I really had to answer it would be Nookie – Only You. I’ve just loved this tune for so long now and I can’t help but dance and throw a few shapes when I hear it, the vibe is something else. To me this is a timeless tune and I’ll never get tired of playing it or listening to it, although sadly I’ve never heard it played on a big system.
Another 5 favourites of mine in this mix are:
Total Science -Black Ice
Scar – Prang
Fierce & Break – Red Line
Seba & Paradox – Swirl
Walk:r – Emerald
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
Patience, Crisps and Hummous!
Tell us about your latest release?
My latest release is a single (Mirrors/Indigo) which has come out on Jubei’s label, Carbon Music. Which is mad really as I’ve been a huge fan of Paul for a very long time and his ‘To Have & Have Not’ album actually got me into producing in the first place so to be at this point now working with him is really amazing. Shout out to Paul for bringing me into the fold and being a great source of support and guidance.
The single itself is quite a contrasting one as the two tracks are so different in style from each other, but I think it reflects who I am as an artist and how the variety of styles of music that I listen to (both within Drum and Bass/Jungle and other genres) influence the way I write music. I don’t feel that my sound can be “pigeonholed” as such…my productions vary in style and I enjoy writing whatever I like really.
What have you got coming up?
I’ll be releasing some more music with Carbon, some music with Soul In Motion and a few others in 2023 (hopefully), and I have plans to write music and get in the studio with a few artists whose music I love.
I’ve been feeling a lot more inspired to write music recently too. I think most creatives go through periods of self-doubt and lack of inspiration but hopefully, I’m through the other side of that! I’m also sitting on a bunch of music that I need to send off to people, I just end up longing these things out!
When was the last time you actually raved?
A few weeks ago, at Motion. I’m past my sell-by date now… my back was killing the next day!! Crippled at 27.
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
I’m not really a special message sender, but I’d be interested to know if an all Walk:r mix would be something people would be interested in.
