Renegade Riddims: Liohness

Liohness is a DJ and producer who has forged her own path and found her sound that demands respect. Her sets are a full spectrum of 170 bass music blending jungle, dancefloor, liquid, rollers tech and beyond.

Liohness is co-creator of bass music night Equilibrium. A club night aimed at delivering Drum & Bass and representing womxn and female DJs in the scene. The night and cause is a subject close to Liohness and something she feels is increasingly important. Believing in diversity, equality and good vibes, she is proud to provide a platform for womxn in addressing the gender imbalance in the Drum & Bass scene.

Her performance credits include performing with tastemakers in the scene such as Bcee, Dexcell, General Levy, Keeno, London Elektricity, Whiney, and Technimatic. Festival appearances and career highlights include Sounds from The Other City, Highest Point, The Fortress stage at Beatherder, Neucode San Antonio, Ibiza, and the renowned Woodland Dance Project, Edinburgh. 

She is currently focused on her own productions. In 2021, she won runner-up in a remix competition for renowned Bristol label, Sofa Sound Bristol. Liohness was also one of the artists to feature on our Data Transmission Radio International Women’s Day Takeover 2021. She is also a current Mentee with Overview Music. Expect more releases from Liohness in the works. She is also a keen music journalist and has previously written for DJ Mag and Loose Lips, and is a UKF Editorial regular…There’s no stopping this creative force!

What’s your personal favourite track on it?

I’m really feeling Lens’ new ‘Marufo’ EP, particularly the track ‘Give Me A Reason’ – total vibe and fantastic tune.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?

“This could turn Hare Krishna into a bad boi”. Good flow, few weighty doubles, and unexpected twists and turns! There’s a lot of brilliant tunes out right now but I’m really digging some of these High Contrast 20th anniversary remixes. Plus new Upbeats, Break, Pythius…so much sonic goodness!

What have you got coming up? 

I have a couple of remixes set to drop and hopefully more originals coming 2022. These remixes will be on RemarQabl; who are a dance/electronic label finding the fantastiq future first. Drop them a follow! The remixes are kinda rainy day and atmospheric, which is the vibe that draws me most as a producer (and elder emo) right now. Which is ironic, as it’s not really what I DJ.

Also very excited to be playing in Brighton in September with the Overview Music crew, come join!

When was the last time you actually raved?

Noisily Fest. Though admittedly spent most of the time at the trance stage…

Why did the lion get lost in the forest? Because the JUNGLE IS MASSIVE.
