NUDE34: Nico Cabeza

Nico Cabeza was born in 1986 near Venice (Italy) and is now Berlin-based. He has been bound to the music scene at age 14 when he decided to buy the first mixer. At that time he began to explore what is the concept of DJing, an art which at the time was still tied to the underground scene. Slowly begin to master vinyl and CDs, and for many years as a DJ in the various events of his city.

The real turning point came when he began the journey that will take him to the maturity of the present day: productions. His head is influenced by a number of groups that had marked his life, mainly from Depeche Mode to all the music that had marked the 80s, but he did not know what would have given him more thrust would be the hip hop of the late 80 a large part of the 90s.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Hmmmm, honestly I love all the tracks I play. But, to be honest, in this mix I’ve included my follow up with Ingrid called “Want A Rave”. After the great response on our first Ep together on Miles From Mars we decided to make something harder and the result was really huge. This will be released soon on Koukuu, label by Simina Grigoriu, with a b side.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
I think the main ingredient in this mix is the research. During lockdown and after it (in Germany and then in Italy) I’ve passed half of the days lookin for new and old music, and the rest of it to improve my music producer’s skill. The result is a good combination of what my sound actually is and what I like.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Well before lockdown I was in the UK in York and Leeds, and was fun, but the best was the one after lockdown in Italy. It was in Bologna with the “Frega” crew in the legendary Link club. I was super happy, also ‘cause I’ve shared the night with two good friends: my brotha Mattia Saviolo and Ingrid. The night was super funny!

What have you got coming up?
Well, as I’ve said, I’ve got this new Ep with Ingrid (2 original tracks), I’ve made an amazing remix for Alex Mine and D-Deck’s album on their label Comade and got also another ep coming out later this year… already got something for 2021 (really big) coming out… but will deliver details in the next future Then I’m looking forward to coming back to Berlin (where I actually live) to make some new beats in my studio, that I share with Mattia Saviolo and Luis Arboleda.
