Nils Penner will freely admit he wasn’t a natural when he first came to make music. With no real instrumental skills to speak of, and only a basic understanding of Reason, he first creations were… found wanting, shall we say. But then again, everyone must start somewhere, and with a heartfelt desire to make his music heard, Nils was undeterred.

2007 was the year it all kicked off. Hired initially as a graphic designer for John Muder and Chi-Thien Nguyen‘s Criminal Records, Nils impressed with his early concepts, leading to his highly successful, collaborative Penner+Muder project with the label boss.

Following an album for Moodmusic and a healthy European touring schedule, Nils decided to strike out on his own in 2010, founding his Wazi Wazi label and quickly signing tracks to the likes of Exploited and Suol. Most recently, Nils dropped a second EP on Freerange Records; the 3-track I Can Be EP includes a remix from Pittsburgh Track Authority and is available on vinyl and digital now.

Nils’ Spotlight Mix (our 10th already can you believe) takes a journey through the more mellow end of tech house, visiting disco-inspired and deeper themes along on the way.
