Son of 8 and Phats & Small – With Every Heartbeat

UK house duo Son of 8 join forces with Phats & Small covering Robyn’s 2005 hitWith Every Heartbeat.

Known for their immaculate production, Son of 8 deliver an Ibiza-worthy steady house rhythm backed up with a smooth and complementing bass line. The head-bobbing, steady groove will have you picturing yourself on a bright white beach in no time, as the keyboards lift the track into a familiar frenzy of euphoria.  A straight-up house track that keeps the memories of summer alive, we got comments from both of them below.

Son Of 8  “We actually met Jason (Phats) at Glastonbury and we’ve been admirers of their music for a long time. They told us that they were working on some really exciting stuff and when we checked it out we were blown away by their new music. They had this incredible vocal of “With Every Heartbeat” that just had something about it – the kind of sound you can’t force but just know is going to be huge as soon as you hear it. We loved it and writing a track together to fit the vocal just seemed like the obvious choice, and thanks to the wonders of technology, we’ve been able to work on this with the guys from our base in Ibiza over the summer. Before it was signed, the track picked up over 300 plays on radio stations across the U.K – it’s amazing to hear your own tracks played on the radio so we have to thank Kiss FM and Gaydio in particular for supporting it from the very beginning, and then when Spinnin said they wanted to sign it, it was definitely a big moment for us.”

Phats & Small says “This was one of the first studio sessions of the young singer and the take we used in the final version was the very first one. You can hear the apprehension and slight nervousness in her voice. Situations like that in the studio, capturing a moment of uniqueness, a happy accident, are blessings in the creative process. From then on it was Skype and phone calls with Son Of 8, working on the final production; it’s amazing how you can be anywhere in the world and still collaborate. At one point we were working between Las Vegas and Ibiza putting the final touches to the track.”

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
