Happa has revealed a fuzzy, laser-fuelled new track called ‘Ascension’.
The song is taken from his Part 1 EP, the first of three upcoming records for his PT/5 label – a fresh collaborative effort with Dan Foat (a.k.a. the saviour of R&S Records and man who unearthed Mercury Prize winner, James Blake).
As has become a trademark of the young Leeds producer, ‘Ascension’ is powerful and richly textured. Layer upon layer of percussion, synths and samples crackle through each other, drawing a surge of positivity forward from the depths of the mix. And then there’s that vocal, tough but showing signs of age, and combined with a driving beat, it almost has a hint of Underworld or even Gorillaz about it.
Part 1 is available on vinyl now via Bleep, and will see a digital release on August 21st. In the meantime, you can stream ‘Ascension’ below.
