UMEK launches new hardgroove techno record label, 1605 GrooveSector

UMEK is one of the artists that back in the ‘90s and early ‘00s was at the forefront of the techno style that is now known as hardgroove. Although, back then it was more commonly known as tribal techno or funky techno.
Hardgroove is steadily gaining momentum within today’s scene, as lots of leading artists and record labels are embracing the raw and timeless sound, which has fast-paced rhythms and more common use of organic samples.
Lots of hardgroove tracks orientate around a live percussion loop accompanied by vocal stabs and hypnotic synth lines, and UMEK’s classic Recycled Loops record label helped formulate this archetype.
Electronic music moves in cycles, and with hardgroove making a resurgence, many veteran producers are switching to their classic sound. UMEK is one such producer, and recently he has been making hardgroove under the alias of, Polyvinyl.
Polyvinyl releases can be found on record labels like Suara, KD Raw, Sway and Tronic, but adding to that already impressive list is a new imprint called, 1605 GrooveSector, which UMEK has recently launched himself.
The first 1605 GrooveSector release is an double track package called Mechanically Intensive and it features two original tracks by UMEK.
“Mechanically Intensive” is a percussive track with a jackin’ groove underpinned by a rolling bassline, and the B-side “Da Flute” has a Latin melody layered over vigorous drums with upbeat energy.
It’s a masterfully produced release by an artist who reminds us why he has managed to stay relevant for over two decades.
