Speakers announced for our ‘Hack The DJ’ event in Milton Keynes

Last week we announced that we are launching a series of events in our hometown of Milton Keynes to help inspire, educate and empower local DJs with the knowledge to help them on the right path towards an exciting and successful career in the music industry.

We have teamed up with local venue Unit Nine to help bring this event series to life by launching on International Women’s Day Friday 8th March.

To kick off our new HACK THE DJ series, we want to start by looking at a huge local problem, which is the drastic lack of female DJ talent.  We have curated a FREE day of discussions, panels, keynote addresses and fireside chats with some truly inspirational music industry women & men from across the industry.

We can now reveal the first of the speakers for our FREE event with more still to be announced!

Missrepresent (Aliina Atkinson)

Missrepresent stormed onto the dnb scene in 2001 after winning the Liquidfunk.co.uk mix competition beating over 500 entries at just 20 years old.

Her beginnings started in 2001 when she was sponsored by her boss at Domino’s Pizza with a set of Numark turntables. Now, a national and international DJ and Producer, having played over 550 clubs, pubs, silent disco’s, boat parties and festivals from Scotland, Europe and briefly touring the USA – tearing the roof off at Barnyard Boogie in Chicago, she has played Denver and Reno Nevada, headlining numerous sell-out events across the world. No stranger to heaving dancefloors, as far abroad to Asia, her clear love for keeping people dancing into the early morning is well documented.

She first cut her teeth in the music industry at the Art Desk of Mixmag in the mid Nineties before taking the Art Editor position at NME. She launched her Favouritizm brand in 2001, hosting parties all over London and subsequently launched a record label and PR & Radio plugging company, working with some of the best names in the biz from Darren Emerson, Prince, DJ Sneak, Saytek, Junior Jack & Tube & Berger, Kevin Saunderson to David Morales and more. Fireside chat with Alisha

Interview by Grahame Farmer

We first started talking about Alisha on Data Transmission in 2017 and since then her productions have been signed by Green Velvet’s Relief Records and more.

Kaluki’s very own ALISHA is a house music producer, DJ and name that is firmly keeping her proud home city of Peterborough’s name on the map in the scene of house music, as she regularly steals the show in some of the industries most respected hot spots and their respective parties. In a scene that has become so competitive and saturated it goes without saying it is difficult for anyone to showcase their talents regularly – but Alisha’s unique style, high energy and technical ability that she injects into every one of her sets, ensures she secures her name on mammoth line ups and turns the heads of so many promoters, party goers and nowadays even the most-established selectors.

Grahame & Alisha will chat about her journey so far.

Ladies, if you are a DJ, want to be a DJ or generally just want to work in the music industry then please come and join us for a fun day.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
