Renegade Riddims: Ruth Royall

Share

Ruth Royall‘s ‘Queen’ album has landed with confidence, clarity and a whole lot of low-end intention. Ruth steps forward with a debut album that feels earned, lived-in and unapologetically built for the dancefloor. This is Drum & Bass with heart, pressure and purpose, designed for sweaty rooms, raised reload fingers and late-night moments where the system does the talking.

After years of carving her own lane through a male-dominated scene, Ruth Royall arrives fully in control. ‘Queen’ is the sound of an artist claiming every part of her craft. Vocalist, producer, songwriter, label owner and live performer, all locked into one cohesive statement.

Rooted firmly in Drum & Bass but unafraid to roam, ‘Queen’ moves through Garage, House, Dubstep, Trance and Breaks without ever losing its connection to the floor. Every track feels designed with real spaces in mind. Basements sweating. Rooftops shaking. Warehouses humming as the bass rolls deep and wide.

‘Forevermore’ sets the tone with a soaring Drum & Bass anthem, emotional but never fragile. Big vocals. Proper weight. Bop flips the energy into something sharper and more direct, a bounce-heavy production debut that doubles as a clear message to promoters and bookers. Easy Fix brings playful swagger and boundary-setting bars, while ‘Chase the Dawn’ leans into trance-laced tension, made for those hands-in-the-air moments just before release.

“Queen is the the biggest project I’ve ever done and feels extremely honest. It’s my first step into a multi-genre space, it’s nostalgic, rave-inspired, and full of the sounds that made me fall in love with dance music in the first place. There are breaks, trance, garage, and dubstep all thrown together, yet it feels like one cohesive story. I’ve worked with some of my favourite collaborators across the whole project, and it’s been amazing to just create what feels good without worrying about fitting into a box. Putting together the visuals and creative narrative was so much fun too. The message to take up space and be your true self really shines through in the album and I’m really proud of what I’ve created.”

‘Butterfly’ glides between garage and house with warmth and uplift, pure feel-good energy without losing its edge. ‘Gravity’ pulls things darker, sliding from soulful tones into bass-heavy pressure built to flex serious systems. ‘Fuk With My Stuff’ brings cheek and charisma, a lively garage workout that shows Ruth’s fun side, while ‘Brightest Star’ lands as the emotional centrepiece. Fully produced by Ruth and featuring her son’s first words, it is deeply personal yet still grounded in groove. ‘Dance In The Rain’ closes things out with reflective breaks energy, easing the pressure without losing momentum.

The album mirrors Ruth’s reputation as a powerful live artist. This is music shaped by real-world stages, not spreadsheets. You can hear the crowd’s response in the arrangements. You can feel the space between the kicks. It is written for movement, connection and shared energy.

Beyond the music, ‘Queen’ reflects a wider story. Motherhood on the road. Campaigns around representation and body positivity. A visible voice for change within Drum & Bass culture. None of it feels forced here. It is woven naturally into the rhythm and intention of the record.

‘Queen’ is a debut with backbone. Built for the club. Built for the culture. Built to last. Make sure you grab a copy from here if you haven’t already!!
