Renegade Riddims: DJ Chronic

With 26 years in the game, nearly 400 gigs under his belt and countless hours of radio experience, Ashford, Kent-based DJ Chronic has built a solid reputation as one of the underground’s most versatile selectors.

His range is genuinely broad. From old school Hardcore and Rave through to Jungle, classic Drum & Bass, modern Jump Up, UK Garage and Speed Garage, Chronic has always kept as many doors open as possible, connecting with new audiences and promoters across the full spectrum of bass music culture.

That versatility has earned him spots at some of the scene’s most respected events, including Moondance, Breakology, D&B Classics, Metalheadz, Jungle Delight, Garage Nation, Pure Science, Epidemik, Bangers & Mash, DnB Street, Invicta Bass, Andy C Presents, Sticky, and AWOL x Jungle Mania, among many others.

He has also headlined alongside some of the culture’s most celebrated MCs, sharing stages with Skibadee, Shabba D, Harry Shotta, MC Det, Stormin and MCDT.

For Chronic, it has always come back to the music itself. “The heavier the bass, the better.”

I first met Chronic at Reggae Land in Milton Keynes a few years ago, after a friend of mine noticed that Chronic’s best friend and I both dance the same… all real Junglists know to get down low…right?! The 3 of us hit it off immediately. It was like we were always supposed to be friends, but the stars hadn’t aligned until that point. Despite the very high possibility of us being at the same raves over the years! I’ve supported Chronic when I’ve been able to get gigs he’s played, and his mixes on his SoundCloud channel have soundtracked a fair few of my working days. Seemed only right that I should get him on our Renegade Riddims series.

What have you got coming up? 

I have my 1st hometown show of the year this month, supporting the mighty Uncle Dugz & Boxer Banton. A 2nd Guest appearance at the big bad Lemz Studioz & my own monthly radio show on Code Red Radio, also gigs in Folkestone & London over the coming weeks.

When was the last time you actually raved?

The last time I raved was on 6/6/26 in Canterbury, where I went along to support a good friend who was DJ’n at the University….
