Juanito steps up to Moon Harbour with ‘Atracando’

Barcelona-based Frenchman Juanito steps up to Moon Harbour with one of his colourful new Tech-House cuts, ‘Atracando.’

The track is a superb and summer-ready House anthem. The chunky drums bounce and bobble under fiery horns. There is a colourful and open-air feeling to the Spanish vocal chants while rolling percussion and tumbling toms fatten the groove.

We premiere ‘Atracando’ on Data Transmission and we spoke to Juanito about the release and story behind it, and his other movements this summer.

Tell us a bit about the release! Is there a story behind it?
Sure, I’m so excited about this release. Just in time for the European Summer. Regarding the story behind it, I always loved latin music. Back in March, I was preparing my South America tour listening to this kind of music, I happened to find this sample and something clicked in my head and this is the result.

What inspired you to produce the track?
I was thinking for weeks to make some ‘secret weapons’ for this tour. And 3 days before my flight to Colombia, luckily, I found the way. My plan was to produce a proper dance floor killer, with Latin flavours and thinking people might go crazy on the drop!

When I tried it in each gig, I saw a great reaction from the crowd, I was so happy about my track!

How did you produce it (and where)?
I made it in my home studio in Barcelona. I’m working with Ableton Live 11. I started by making a Latin groove with the Cuba library of Kontakt. Then, one of the key elements of my tracks: is the bass line. I made them with several layers: Rob Papen SubBoomBass2 for the subpart and Arturia Mini V3 for the main element. I added some trumpet shots, and finally treated the sample vocal…. And ‘Atracando’ was born! Surprisingly, ideas flowed super fast. In less than 48 hours I made it! Amazing!

What is your connection with Moon Harbour?
To be honest, Moon Harbour is my favourite label ever since I started my project more than 10 years ago.
I always had in mind this goal/dream to sign on the label.

I’m in contact with Matthias since 2018, he already played some of my demos. I regularly send him my new tracks. When I came back from South America, I worked again on the mix down and I decided to send him ‘Atracando’. I thought it had all the elements he could like in a track. The timing was perfect as he had a Colombian tour.
He tried it on his gigs and came back to me with the amazing news that he wanted it for Moon Harbour! So happy to say I’m part of the label now!

What are your plans for the summer?
With my management, after my intensive tour, we decided to focus this month of May on making music in the studio and signing my new tracks.

From June, we’ll have some great gigs in France, Spain, Peru, Panama, Chile and many more to be confirmed.
Can’t wait to play ‘Atracando’ louuuuud! =)

Anything else you‘d like to add?
Yes!

Thank you for this quick interview

Thank you Matthias and the whole Moon Harbour team for believing in me! And don’t forget! June 9th is the release date of my new single ‘Atracando’!!
