Music Talk with James Dexter

Share

James Dexter had been producing quality house and tech for over a decade now, and his past few releases have seen him turn out for Bondage, Gruuv, Cyclic or Inermu.

The London-based James Dexter teams up with Denney for a slick three-tracker on Steve Bug’s Sublease Records. With Denney co-producing the EP, we are treated to three perfectly-realised slices of contemporary dancefloor science. Denney meanwhile is a regular contributor to labels like VIVa Music, Saved Records, 2020 Vision and of course Hot Creations – the home for his breakout hit  ‘Low Frequency’ back in 2015.

In this interview, I spoke to James on Twitch for a masterclass on how to make Minimal house music, he delves deep into his production processes, the importance of having a radio show, how to start a record label being creative and experimenting in the studio, how to cut through the noise of the Industry, mindset and attitude to studio sessions, the importance of collaborating and a whole host more.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
