Franky Rizardo walks us through his ‘In the House’ Mix

Franky Rizardo – DJ, producer, label boss. The young artist continues to prove himself as one of Holland’s finest exports in dance music, demonstrating a solid production career with releases spanning a collection of top labels, including a long term relationship with Defected Records, whilst continuing to push himself as a DJ with a distinctive style that works across the big stages as well as packed out clubs.

Establishing a brand is no easy feat, yet Franky’s FLOW concept continues to develop into a recognisable icon in the house music landscape. From humble beginnings as a weekly radio show on Holland’s national SLAM!FM, to international club nights and the hosting and curation of stages at the Netherlands’ hottest festivals, his work ethic knows no bounds.

There are no signs of stopping the Dutch-man,  next up he’s mixed the Defected’s ‘In The House’ mix series due out this week on 31st March, cementing his position alongside some of the world’s greatest DJs.  We ask him to walk us through the mix and why he choose certain tracks on the compilation.

Fish Go Deep – The Cure And The Cause (Dennis Ferrer Remix)

This is one of my all time favorite songs, I beefed it up by combining it with beats from Ross Evan’s Lie Detector. This edit i’ve been playing for such a long time and its one of my most requested to share so i’m happy i finally can share it with you through the comp.

Franky Rizardo – Same Man

The response to this song has been amazing, reaching #1 beatport tech house and BBC’s Nick Grimshaws track of the week on his Breakfast show. Definitely one of the biggest tracks in my sets at the moment.

Whitesquare – Abduction vs. Nick Curly – Underground (Franky Rizardo Flow Edit)

I’m constantly doing edits for my DJ sets, combining tracks and accapellas and adding effects. The ITH compilation album gave me a great opportunity to include some of these. This is one of my favourites, I really dig the combo of the drums and vocal in this mashup, will see a single release as well in mid April on Defected.

Dennis Ferrer – Bubbletop

Dennis is always one step ahead of the game and is always pushing boundaries. I love the vocal in this and the groove Dennis has done is amazing. So angular and original. Dennis is one of those producers who I buy everything he makes.

Kuo Climax – Tomorrow (Dennis Cruz Remix)

Love the groove on this, sometimes its all you need. Dennis Cruz has been smashing it this year, so many good records I have been playing in my sets – but this was the one I wanted to have on ITH. A killer vocal combined with killer drums.

Franky Rizardo ft. Mike City – Crazy Day

This is one of the vocal projects Ive been working on – these days Ive been making more a more groove based tracks. I wanted to put an original song on the album – Mike City killed it with the vocal on this one! The reaction so far has been amazing on this one, his sentiment on the song was great – I do have crazy days I I totally related to this one instantly.

Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra – Too Much Information (Laolu Remix)

Huge song with stunning vibes, one that you will come back to time and time again. I know this has been around for a while, but I wanted the compilation to reflect all off my tastes, and I wanted this to be a listening experience – not just 2 banging club mixes – I love afro beat styles, some of my early work was heavily influenced by those rhythms.

Anabel Englund – London Headache (Franky Rizardo Remix)

When I first heard this song I called my manager I said I would love to remix this. So when I was asked to do the ITH compilation this song was the first one my list to do a remix of. I wanted to do something really deep to compliment the vibe of the song. Anabel delivering amazing vocals, she is def one of the best singers out there.

Franky Rizardo – Transmit

I have hundreds of tracks on my computer – this one has been one of the ones I kept coming back to as something to develop and release. Its a total homage to Chicago and New York house – its fitted so well on this Defected release – when I submitted this to the label they were all mailing me back freaking out. Im glad this is finally seeing the light.

Jax Jones – House Work (Franky Rizardo Remix)

I remixed this last year and its been working really well in my dj sets, up until this point it was unreleased, so I was very happy to have this remix as one of the exclusives to the album. Mike Dunn is a legend so it was really nice to work with these vocals.

Defected’s ‘In The House’ mix series is out on Friday 31st March on Defected Records.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
