N-MON1C ‘Evoke’ [inHabit Recordings] ***Out 19th November 2021***
Right so, it’s almost a cliché to say Drum & Bass is a global thing these days, but in the past year alone inHabit Recordings have released music by producers from Brazil, Hungary, Australia, the Czech Republic and the United States, among others, so it gives them no small amount of pride to be able to wheel out an Irish producer for the next MOMENTUM release. No less a talent than N-MON1C all the way from the People’s Republic of Cork with the ‘Conquest’ EP.
Paul has been working away and honing his craft for years now, and having caught the ears of people at Citrus and beyond via early beginnings with Boey Audio there’s quite clearly going to be no ceiling at all for this guy and you can expect great things in the years to come. On to the tunes then, there are FIVE of them because inHabit had a hard time whittling it down to fewer and because frankly, these are all sicker than, erm, well they’re honestly too good to be calling “sick”, certainly in this day and age, so I’m just going to say they are absolute weapons and I’m going to leave it that.
Pitching his tent somewhere between the funk of early Virus and Underfire with the sound design chops of early Phace, and enough taste and discernment to know to carve out space around everything to make it really hit every sweet spot on the biggest rig you can think about, he also brings a quirky, angular and precise approach to percussion that puts him on a level well apart from most of the standard plugin-humping youtube tutorial followers out there, which is why we are so happy to have him on board with us. Did I mention that Heights sprinkled fairy-dust all over these tunes and they sound like stargates opening now? No? Well, he did. Go cop these now, you’ll be playing these a LOT.
