DJ Die’s Clear Skyz imprint continues to grow and is back in the mix with a brand new single from fellow Bristolians Critical Impact and charismatic MC Jakes on The Illa.
Simmering and stepping, The Illa is graced with the familiar but always welcome vocal tones of Jakes adding his unique vocal swagger to a stripped back track base. Critical Impact keeps the music simple but devastating effective but this one is certainly all about Jakes and the bars. If you were a fan of TC’s Deep from a few years ago then this will provide you with those same flavours for pure MC-led goodness.
On the reverse is an utter gem of a track. On first listen you can see why DJ Die is releasing this on his label, Specialise In Love has the essence of that classic Die sound. A peach of a roller, its snappy drums, conga hits and warm female vocals giving the tune an old school Bristol feel. It works for me and has had many a repeated listen. We may be in October now but Specialise In Love is pushing through some late summery vibes.
An overall brilliant showing from Critical Impact on these two cuts. Musically different but are definitely a worthy purchase and another notch in the small but rapidly growing catalogue of good music from Clear Skyz. More please, thank you.
