With an impressive list of labels who have requested his talent on the production boards, Xtrah goes with Break’s stunning Symmetry Recordings imprint for his debut EP entitled Lost Time.
Having laced the label with Cyrax back in 2011 and reworking Something New into a glitched out stepper on The Other Side compilation LP last year, it’s clear that Xtrah has made an impression on the label head honcho. Offering up four cuts, Lost Time is some of his best output to date. The lead track rolls out with that almost trademark thumping low end and tight as fuck percussion, even getting the ever consistent Codebreaker MC to lace the track with sung vocals as opposed to super lyrical bars on this go around. Always New sees Xtrah collaborate with Break and DRS on a bouncy hip hop number, warping and bubbling bass are the foundation for DRS to come correct and precise with the the rhymes. Things gets super dark on Groove Shadow, again more super deep bass stabs and gritty subtle synths make this, in my opinion, the standout on a release that has them running all the way through it. Shutting it down at the close is Break’s remix of Cyrax. As per usual with a Break remix it’s certified G for gully, punchy drums and flawless bass work make this one another notch in the cap of one of the most prolific and consistent producers the scene has.
There is no debating this is one of the best EP’s of the year. All four tracks are pretty much necessary material so don’t be stupid and go out and buy the thing.
